Vodafone Portugal has entered into an agreement with the owner of NOWO Communications, Cabonitel S.A., to acquire the operator. The announcement took place last Friday

In a statement sent to the press, Vodafone Portugal said that the purchase“will strengthen its competitiveness in the market, providing it with greater scale and coverage, with benefits for current and future customers, as well as for the sector”, and that it will create “conditions for more efficient investment in high-speed connectivity networks, as well as in the development of innovative products and services

Vodafone Portugal CEO Mário Vaz added that “the acquisition of NOWO will allow Vodafone to increase its customer base as well as its fixed network coverage. The future upgrade of the acquired network to new generation fibre optics will benefit current and future users by ensuring the increased quality and resilience of this infrastructure

The deal is still subject to the market regulator’s scrutiny, and is expected to be concluded in the first quarter of 2023
