Portuguese and Spanish artists can apply for the first edition of the Digital Art Awards. The contest was announced this Tuesday by Samsung and wants to reward the “best digital artworks, which is a unique opportunity to share their talent and continue working on their growth as an artist”

In a note sent to the media, Javier Martínez, director of Consumer Electronics marketing at Samsung Electronics Iberia, says that the South Korean brand wants to recognize art and culture through technology: “We will continue along this path so that Iberian art has more and more visibility in our society and in the world, because art is a form of expression that should be shared and deserves to be valued.”

The competition, which is free to enter, aims to reward original digital works in one of three formats (image, vector or video) and can be submitted to one of four categories: audiovisual short films (fiction, animation, advertising or documentary short films are accepted), “Net Art” (works with interactive components), digital photography (photos captured using digital devices) and digital plastic art. All works must be accompanied by an information pack, and artists may only submit one work to the competition

The winner will receive “specialized training at the School of Design (ESDI), either through the Masters in Digital Art Curatorship, which will lead to an official diploma from the Ramón Llull University, or through a first academic year of the Higher Cycle of Training in 3D Animation, Games and Interactive Environments”

Entries can be submitted until midnight on 15 October, and are limited to those residing in Portuguese or Spanish territory. All information about the competition can be found on the Samsung Portugal website
